Abstract：The multivariable theory of Hilbert space operators has two branches: the theory of commuting operators and the non-commutative theory. Progress in both fields depends on understanding the associated function theory.
In this talk I will present some results in the theory of analytic functions that were proved by a detour through non-commutative function theory.
